While the Mi MIX 2 launched today is truly an upgrade over its predecessor in all respects, we aren’t much sure of the new Mi Note 3. Moreover, the Mi Note 3 had remained as a side kick to the Mi MIX 2 in the run up to the launch. There were scarce rumors to go by. Last year, the Mi Note 2 was a curved display handset looking every bit a Galaxy Note7. This year, Xiaomi has downgraded the Mi Note 3 to completely remove the curved display. It is a bit surprising. Now, prior to launch, Xiaomi’s President did say that it will be a bigger Mi 6. We didn’t know that he meant that in the purest sense of the word.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Design

The Mi Note 3 with a slightly bigger footprint and a 5.5-inch display. The design is spitting image of the Mi 6. Just copy the Mi 6 design and paste and enlarge it a bit. You have a Mi Note 3. That said, there are some improvements. Xiaomi has used a better sturdy 7th gen aluminum alloy. On the other hand., the Mi 6 comes with a stainless steel chassis. In short, design is so similar to the Mi 6, you could easily confuse one with the other.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Specs

The insides of the phone also seem to have been downgraded in some respects. Chiefly the processor. The Mi Note 3 sports the Snapdragon 660-octa-core processor. There are few handsets like the Oppo R11 that come with this processor. Now, this is a mid-range chipset. The newest handset from Xiaomi comes with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB/ 128 GB internal storage. Keeping the hamster wheel running is the 3,500 mAh battery. The handset is endowed with MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat.

The camera department is the least interesting with Xiaomi putting the same pair of sensors on the Mi 6 here. We are seeing a 12 MP + 12 MP rear sensor. The telephoto lens comes with f/2.6 aperture with OIS and PDAF and the other sensor has an f/1.8 aperture. The Mi Note 3 has a 16 MP selfie shooter sitting on the front of the device. The camera has a Beautify mode that uses AI to enhance images. The handset also supports face unlock along with fingerprint scanning.
