When Xiaomi released its Mi Mix concept device, it immediately caught everyone’s eye. Although smartphones have to tread a fine line between innovation and familiarity, the device struck all the right notes. A huge display, check, great battery, check with the thinnest possible bezels to put several flagships and bigger phablets to shame while packing some great hardware inside a compact frame. Now details of its successor, the Mi Max 2 are trickling too us.

The speculative Xiaomi Mi Max 2

Barely a couple months post launch the company has detailed plans for a successor. The successor will still be designed by Philippe Starck. With the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, the company wants to develop a successor that would outshine the original in all aspects, hardware and software. The first and foremost is the increase in screen-to-body ratio to ~93% vs. 91% on its predecessor, which is achieved by further cutting down on the bezels.

Now a new set of renders have been posted online showcasing the final look of the device. These renders were developed by TechConfigurations, which show the Mi Mix 2 featuring a dual-rear camera package alongside a fingerprint scanner / home button instead of the rumoured on-display fingerprint scanner that the device was rumoured to be shipping with. At the end of the day though, these are just renders of what might be the final product and thus we will have to wait for sometime to check the veracity of the same.

Apart from these breakthroughs, the device was supposed to pack the following hardware: A Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 SoC, paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The dual-rear cameras are supposedly 16-megapixel sensors with a laser for quick-focus, optical image stabilisation and phase detection auto focus. The selfie shooter up front is an 8-megapixel shooter. The bottom of the device is to feature a USB Type-C port. Keeping in line with its predecessor though, the Mi Max 2 will feature a ceramic chassis to keep things compact and allow for maximum aural efficacy in the limited space for a speaker and microphone(s). Finally the smartphone is to feature a 6.4-inch quad-HD (1440 x 2560) resolution AMOLED display with curved edges with support for 3D touch.
