Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 has already created quite a buzz, post its release in January. This Redmi Note series flagship has proved to be a bestseller for Xiaomi this year, and even after months of its release, it continues to have that craze among the masses. While Xiaomi is already on its heels to launch a plethora of new devices, a new update from the Chinese social media website, Weibo, states that Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A will be announced at an event in China on Monday at 7:30pm China Time, by Xiaomi CEO and Chairman Bin Lin. The phone has been expected for about a month as images of the retail packaging of the device leaked in July.

Even though, the device would be a successor to the Note series, supposedly it is assumed to be a stripped down and more easily-affordable version, featuring a comparatively low end hardware. Its sibling, the Redmi Note 5, is assumed to be the one that would house a more premium hardware and software.

The website also gives us a glimpse of how the device might look, and going by the images, it might not really appeal to the masses. The Note 5A looks ordinary, with regular top and bottom bezels on the front. If you flip the phone and have a look at its rear panel, you would find a 13-megapixel camera unit combined with a LED flash and that is it. Apart from the camera unit, the phone doesn’t really offer any further functionality at the back. A 5 MP front camera, would offer selfie assistance.

Redmi Note 5A will feature a 5.5-inch HD display (1280×720) and would have a Snapdragon 425 SoC with 4x 1.4 GHz cores, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, that could be expanded with the help of a microSD card (upto 128GB). The phone would be powered by a 3,080 mAh battery, and might run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, backed up by Xiaomi’s MIUI 9.

Getting an official launch date of 21st August, public reviews for the Redmi Note 5A are not far away. With a price tag of about CNY 999 (around 10,000 INR), we will soon get to know if Xiaomi’s gimmick to launch a budget Note series phone with minimalistic features, works out for the company or not.
