Xiaomi has been quietly building up its strategy to fight fierce homeland rivals Oppo and Vivo. The offline push is part of that strategy. The other part is a smartphone that will go toe to toe with the Oppo F5, the R11 and Vivo V7+. Now, Xiaomi was expected to launch a handset in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 bracket earlier as an answer to those phones. That is yet to happen.

Today, a fresh leak of a bezel-less smartphone suggests that is soon going to change. Above leak shows a smartphone other than the Redmi Note 5. Since we know that the Redmi Note 5 will surely have more curves on the corners. It also comes with USB Type-C. Also, evidently, this leaked design pushes the bezels even further than the Redmi Note 5. Rumor has it that this is a first Xiaomi R series phone called Xiaomi R1. Further, it is also expected to sport a dual front camera and a fingerprint sensor at the back.

Other talks surrounding the handset suggest it will be priced 1,499 Yuan ($227). This makes it sit well with the mid-range premium segment phones. Xioami is expected to launch this new series before the year-end. However, this is our first encounter with the Xiaomi R1. As such, we wouldn’t jump our horses just yet, and you should too. Apart from this new series, Xiaomi is also readying the Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus, and Xiaomi Mi 6C for a launch in the coming weeks.
