It seems to be the time of the year when the smartphone manufacturing companies seem to be on a role of launching their old flagship smartphones with a new limited edition phone with the same specifications. This trend was first started by OnePlus not once but twice when OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3T Collette edition which is a OnePlus 3T in a black color with the same hardware as the OnePlus 3T. OnePlus later launched the OnePlus 3T Midnight Black edition which comes without the Collette branding and is available everywhere.
Now is the time for another Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo. Vivo is all set to launch a limited edition of the Vivo V5 Plus on April 4. April 4 is the date when the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League is about to commence. For those of you who don’t know, Indian Premier League is the domestic cricket league in India which happens every year in the month of April and has been very successful over the years.
Vivo has signed a 2-year contract with the BCCI for the year 2016-2017 to get the main sponsorship of IPL. As a part of this sponsorship deal, Vivo is looking to gain from the deal by launching a limited edition Vivo V5 Plus smartphone which could come with an IPL branding or some sort of Cricket branding to attract the cricket lovers in India to buy the smartphone from the company.
Vivo V5 Plus was launched in India back in January and is the industry’s first smartphone to boast dual front-facing cameras. Speaking about the specifications of the V5 Plus, it features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, carrying a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The screen of the device is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 technology.
Under-the-hood is a 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The phone comes in only one variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The V5 Plus boots Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android Marshmallow.
The main feature of the V5 Plus is its front-facing camera. It features a 20MP lens paired with an 8MP lens with an aperture of f/2.0. While the 20MP camera is used to capture regular shots, the 8MP sensor will capture shallow depth of field to add more bokeh effect to the photos. As mentioned earlier, Vivo could be looking to use this camera capabilities to attract the people going to see the cricket matches to capture amazing selfies.
