VIVO is expanding its selfie focussed lineup of smartphones by launching the V5s today at a Gurugram based event. It will be entering a rather crowded segment, one created and expanded by the various Chinese manufacturers like itself and OPPO. The smartphone would not only be capable of taking stellar selfies but also feature a premium metal chassis.
From earlier leaks, we are aware of some of the internal hardware the V5s is packing. The handset would be powered by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core SoC coupled with a Mali T860-MP2 GPU. On the memory side, it has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable via a microSD card (up to 128 GB). Most of these specifications are the same as its outgoing predecessor the VIVO V5. The display is a 5.5-inch HD (720 x1280) IPS panel under a layer of 2.5D curved Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The chassis as mentioned earlier is a metal unibody which melds with the curved display up-front. Powering all this hardware is a 3000mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery. For the software, it is likely to be running FunOS 2.6 which is based on Android, v.6.0, Marshmallow just like its predecessor.
Now coming to the important bits, the cameras, the device will feature a 20-megapixel SONY IMX376 sensor up-front with a f/2.0 aperture and forward firing LED flash for selfies and video chatting. On the rear, the V5s has a 13-megapixel sensor which supports PDAF, has a f/2.2 aperture along with a LED flash. For hardware interconnectivity and charging purposes, VIVO has provided the phone with a microUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack. The V5s supports 4G LTE bands, WiFi 802.11 (up to standard n), Bluetooth v.4.0, GPS and FM Radio. The handset is most likely to be priced at ~₹18,990 and available in Matte Black as seen in the promotional media as well as Space Grey, Gold and Rose Gold options.
