VIVO today launched the V7+ at an event in Mumbai. The smartphone is focussed on selfies and multimedia tasks as mentioned in the company slogan, Camera and Music. The smartphone features a large 5.99-inch display and has a couple other tricks up its sleeve.
Let us find out if it is any good.
Hardware and Design
The VIVO V7+ features an all-metal chassis modelled on the lines of the iPhone 7 complete with the moulded antennas at the top and the bottom of the frame. At the rear, we can notice the single rear camera which is surprising considering most companies are moving towards dual cameras in the back. Below the camera module and its flash we can see the fingerprint at the centre of the device.
Flip the phone over and you will notice is the 5.99-inch display up-front which the company calls a “FullView” Panel. Internally the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory which is expandable via a microSD card (up to 256GB). The front camera on the VIVO V7+ is a 24-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and soft “moonlight glow” selfie flash. The primary camera at the back is a 16-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED CCT flash. Powering all this hardware is a 3225mAh battery unit while out of the box it runs on Android v.7.1, Nougat under VIVO’s proprietary Funtouch OS 3.2 UI.
For hardware connectivity and replenishing the battery VIVO provided this smartphone with a microUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack. The V7+ comes with support dual-SIM support with a dedicated microSD slot. The handset supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi up to dual band ac standard, Bluetooth v.4.2 and A-GPS.
FullView Display and Smart Split 3.0
The VIVO V7+ packs in a 5.9-inch IPS “FullView” Panel which is a fancy way for the company to tell you it has an aspect ratio of 18:9. After this, the story quickly goes downhill since the display has an HD+ resolution of 720 x1440 pixels which is definitely not enough for such a large panel. The display itself is protected by a curved 2.5D piece of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3.
The only advantage of such a display is the fact that it is nearly bezel-less and comes with VIVO’s proprietary Smart Split 3.0 technology. Smart Split is basically VIVO’s take on multitasking with up to two applications running on the same display space thanks to the cavernous size. The V7+ also comes with the Asahi Kasei AK4376A Hi-Fi DAC for a better audio output over the 3.5mm jack.
Pricing and Availability
VIVO has priced the V7+ at Rs 21,990 (~$345) with pre-bookings open from today will the 14th of September. The smartphone will be available on both Flipkart and Amazon India in a surprising change from the usual e-retail exclusivity wars.
