The official StageFright Security OTA Update for all Samsung Galaxy S4 Verizon users is now underway. The software update version stays at Android 5.0 and it should be available today for download.
If you don’t know what is StraightFright, this bug allows attackers to take control and steal data over a Galaxy S4 device after a MMS video message is opened. The video message contains malware and it opens a hole in your phone’s software.
The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update version LRX22C.I545VRUGOF1 of Galaxy S4 brings some stability tweaks and it should fix other small bugs too. The update changelog doesn’t list any other major features added in this update. Verizon is releasing the update in stages which means that it won’t be arriving for all Galaxy S4 users at the same time. A first batch of Verizon Galaxy S4 phones are getting the update today while the remaining devices are going to receive the update starting tomorrow, if there are no major bugs reported back.
You can manually check for new firmware files by going to Settings> About Phone> Software Update. If there is a new firmware ready for download you can confirm the installation.
