The Verizon Galaxy J3 V (2016) has started receiving Nougat firmware as OTAs. The handsets originally shipped with Android 5.1.1 Lolipop along with other J3 variants in 2016. If you happen to have a Verizon J3 V (2016), you’ll see version J320VVRU2BQJ1 in the update. If you haven’t seen the update, you’ll soon see in the few weeks.

So, users can expect many bug fixes along with Nougat features. The changelog says there will be fixes to WiFi call drops, messaging app issues, proximity sensor and Push to Talk+ audio. Android Nougat will also offer multi-window, Doze mode, battery management settings, and a lot of other things.

What is surprising here is that all other J3 phones are still stuck with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Only lucky Verizon units bearing model number SM-J320V will get tasty Nougat. The update comes as Android distribution numbers came in today for the month of November. And the majority of devices are still stuck on Android Nougat. Let alone Oreo. So, Verizon J3 owners can consider themselves very lucky. They got a direct jump to Nougat from Lollipop.

Meanwhile, beta programs for a number of flagships have started including Samsung. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are getting a second update in the Oreo beta phase.
