Reliance Jio has just upgraded its Rs 149 prepaid data pack to provide unlimited data. Before this, the Rs 149 plan offered 3 GB bundled data valid for 28 days. After this 2 GB was finished, users would have to buy another top-up to refill the data. But no more. Now, the upgraded plan also offers speeds of 64Kbps after 2 GB is exhausted. Users may continue to enjoy these speeds without any recharge from their part.
Remarkably, the post FUP speed of 64 Kbps is still lower than what other Jio plans offer. For example, Rs 96, Rs 309 plans come with 128 Kbps post FUP speed. The Rs 19, Rs 49 plans are still to get any post FUP unlimited data access.
The Rs 149 plan is for the affordable segment compared to the popular Rs 309 plan that is valid for 56 days and offers 1 GB data per day FUP. Surprisingly, Jio opts to provide 7 GB data in the Rs 96 plan that is just valid for 7 days. This makes the Rs 149 plan even less attractive. Needless to say, the new offer applies to prepaid customers and as usual subscribers will enjoy free calls & SMS with it.
In comparison, the new Airtel Rs 149 plan seems less lucrative as it still charges for post FUP data use but provides free Airtel-to-Airtel calls for 28 days.
