Today SONY launched the Xperia XA1 smartphone in India. It is the successor to last years Xperia XA. The device has been priced at ₹19,900 and will be made available across all SONY Centres and other major electronics chains across the country. It will be available in White, Black and Pink colour options.
The company had first revealed the smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2017 alongside the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs and Xperia XA1 Ultra. It is supposed to be a bridge device that straddles the entry-level and mid-range segments.
The Xperia XA1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core SoC which has one quad-core module A53 module clocked @2.3GHz and another quad-core module A53 module clocked @1.6GHz with a Mali T880MP2 GPU. This has been coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD slot (up-to 256 GB). The display on the device is a 5-inch HD (720 x1280) IPS panel with minimal bezels. On the camera front, SONY has provided for a 23-megapixel camera on the rear with an f/2.0 aperture, hybrid auto-focus (PDAF and laser) with a LED flash. For selfie duties up-front the camera has an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture that is capable of capturing HD content. To power all this hardware, the Xperia XA1 features a non-removable 2300mAh Li-Ion battery. On the software front it is running a lightly skinned flavour of Android, v.7.0, Nougat.
For hardware connectivity and charging the smartphone has a USB Type-C connector and a 3.5mm audio jack. For improved battery life, SONY has equipped the Xperia XA1 with Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology and for improved stand-by times the phone has a Stamina mode that disables certain functionality. It is a dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) device with support for 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 up-to standard n, Bluetooth v.4.2 and NFC.
Currently SONY is also running an offer which bundles three months of SONY LIV for free on purchase of the smartphone.
