We had reported about Samsung’s SM-G9298 when it was initially spotted on China’s certification board, TENAA’s website. Now, after almost three months the phone has officially been launched. Officially only coming to China, the reveal was taken from Samsung’s Chinese site where the handset is referred to as “World Leading Flagship 8”.
Being a clamshell design the SM-G9298 comes with dual displays, both are 4.2-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) Super-AMOLED panels capable of Always on Display function. The internal hardware is the same as leaked in the TENAA listing, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory which can be expanded via a hybrid microSD slot. On the camera front, the G9298 comes with a 12-megapixel shooter at the back with a f/1.7 aperture capable of 4K video recording and features a dual-LED CCT flash. Selfie duties are handled by a 5-megapixel sensor with a f/1.9 aperture above the display on the front of the clamshell. Powering all this hardware is 2300mAh battery with support for wireless charging.
For charging and connectivity, the SM-G9298 features a micro-USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm analogue jack. For network connectivity, the handset support 4G LTE bands and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 standards, Bluetooth v.4.1. The fingerprint scanner is at the rear below the camera lens. The flagship flip-phone is made out of aircraft grade aluminium alloy, measures 130.2 x62.6 x15.9mm and weighs in at a hefty 235g.
Out of the box, we do not know what version of Android the smartphone is running although suffice to say it would be under the company’s proprietary TouchWiz UI. The phone supports dual-SIM or a single-SIM with a microSD card layout. It is slated to come with Samsung applications like SamsungPay and third-party applications like Weibo, WeChat, Excel, PowerPoint and Word pre-installed.
Currently, the SM-G9298 will only be launched in China and sold through China Mobile in the Black colour variant but there is no date of launch or price estimate given.
