The Google Pixel was the most successful Android smartphone of 2016. Also, it was the most ugliest flagship of 2016. The Google Pixel provided unmatched software experience and a stellar camera which took amazing photos.
Clues about the Google Pixel 2 have started making rounds online. While it’s just the codenames, it reveals a few key information. Google has always been obsessed with fishes and the fish sizes have always connected to the smartphone sizes. Listed below are the Google phones with their fish codenames.
- 2012 – 4.7-inch Nexus 4 (Mako)
- 2013 – 5-inch Nexus 5 (Hammerhead)
- 2014 – 6-inch Nexus 6 (Shamu)
- 2015 – 5.2-inch Nexus 5X (Bullhead), 5.7-inch Nexus 6P (Angler)
- 2016 – 5.1-inch Pixel (Sailfish), 5.5-inch Pixel XL (Marlin)
While rumours have pointed out that the there will be a third super-sized Google Pixel 2, codenames seem to confirm that. Thanks to Android Police as they had picked up the codenames ‘muskie’ and ‘walleye’ on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) gerrit. A third device with codename ‘taimen’ was also spotted.
To summarise, the Google Pixel 2017 have codenames walleye (typically circa 11kg / 24lbs), muskie (17kg / 38lbs) and – the monster – taimen (100kg / 220 lbs).
Here, taimen seems to be a much larger variant and it could mean that a new Pixel tablet could be in the making. But after seeing the trend of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus sporting large 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays, the idea of a Google Pixel XXL would be cool.
