Qualcomm had released the flagship chipset from the company which is the Snapdragon 835 in December last year. After the launch, there were some supply issues with the shortage of the chipset to all the various manufacturers. Samsung Galaxy S8 became the first smartphone to launch with the latest Snapdragon 835 processor. Later, the Mi6 was also launched with the Snapdragon 835 processor. OnePlus has also confirmed that the soon-to-be-released OnePlus 5 will come with Snapdragon 835 processor as well.

Now, we have reports coming out from China that Snapdragon is already working on the next version of the Snapdragon 835 chipset which will be called the Snapdragon 836 chipset. These reports have been published on the Chinese networking site, Weibo. According to the Weibo user, the Snapdragon’s newest chipset is ready for launch and the company is going to release it in the next month i.e July. Snapdragon 836 processor, according to the reports, will not have significant improvements over the Snapdragon 835 processor. However, Snapdragon is also planning on launching the next flagship processor for 2018 which will be called the Snapdragon 845. Snapdragon has been known for releasing an incremental version of its flagship processor as last year, the company released the Snapdragon 820 processor and later the Snapdragon 821 processor. The Snapdragon 821 processor was released in late 2016 and the processor was present on the Google Pixel, LG G6, OnePlus 3T and the HTC U Ultra to name a few.

The big improvement to the Snapdragon 836 over the Snapdragon 835 is that it will be based on Samsung’s own 10-nanometer FinFET process. Also worth noting is that Snapdragon is planning to launch the Snapdragon 845 processor in January next year. Stay tuned as we know more about the Snapdragon 836 chipset.
