After a month plus of the F3 Plus’s launch in India, OPPO has finally launched its smaller sibling the F3 in the country. Batting once again on the dual selfie camera the device bears a striking resemblance to its elder sibling the OPPO F3 Plus but with slightly scaled down hardware. This is reflected in the price difference between the two devices with the Plus variant launching for ₹30,990 compared to the vanilla F3’s MRP of ₹19,900.
The processor running the show is a MediaTek MT6750T6 octa-core SoC coupled with a Mali T860 GPU. On the storage front, the device has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space that can be further augmented with a microSD card (up to 128 GB). The display of the OPPO F3 is a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) TFT panel with In-Cell technology for easy viewing under sunlight. The display is also clad under a layer of 2.5D curved Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 to protect against scratches below which is a solid-state fingerprint scanner for security and ease of access which the company claims works even if the users hands are moist/wet. On the software front, just like the F3 Plus the device is running ColorOS 3.0 which is a skinned version of Android, v.6.0, Marshmallow. To power all this hardware the OPPO F3 has been provisioned with a 3200mAh battery.
Onwards to the F3’s calling card though and we get to the dual selfie cameras up-front, one 16-megapixel 1.3-inch size sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and a double view wide-angle camera with an 8-megapixel sensor and f/2.4 aperture. While the former has a 76.4° wide-angle lens the latter has a 120° ultra-wide-angle lens that allows for group selfies. Users can choose which lens they want to use and the F3 comes with a Smart Facial recognition feature that suggests the user which one would be ideal for taking a picture. At the back is a 13-megapixel sensor with a f/2.2 aperture, PDAF support and LED flash. THe OPPO F3 comes with various camera modes and software optimisations such as Beautify 4.0 application with Bokeh mode for portraits, Selfie Panorama, Screen Flash and Palm Shutter.
The frame of the OPPO F3 is a metal unibody with curved edges for easier grip and premium feel in one’s hand. Mr. Aakash, the product manager of OPPO products in India stated,
The aluminum frame has been sandblasted with Zirconium 220 times to give it a smooth finish while giving it a unique texture
For hardware interconnectivity and charging purposes, the OPPO F3 has a microUSB port and a 3.5mm audio jack. On the connectivity front it is a dual-SIM device with support for 4G LTE bands, WiFi 802.11 up to ac standard (dual-band support), Bluetooth v.4.0 and GPS. The F3 is a dual-SIM device with a dedicated memory card slot on the SIM tray to avoid the hassle of having to trade out a SIM for more storage. There are a couple more software enhancements like the Clone Apps feature which allows a user to have two Whatsapp accounts on the device. OPPO is also touting the launch of its personally curated OPPO App Store’s debut in India alongside the phone.
To keep up with their credentials of being the official sponsors of the Indian cricket team, the company also showcased the new jersey for the Indian Cricket Team at the event and announced that three lucky pre-order buyers of the OPPO F3 will have a chance to watch the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 finals live in London. The company is taking pre-orders for the device from today until 12th of May and the first sale is scheduled to be on the 13th. The OPPO F3 is available in Gold and Rose Gold colour options.
