HMD Global had recently been under a bit of pressure to clarify its stance on updates to its current lineup. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at the company had to reiterate on Twitter that all current generation smartphones would get updated to Android Oreo.
Today, the company has struck a blow against doubters by delivering the September 2017 Android Security update to the NOKIA 5. This is ahead of even Google’s own Pixel and Nexus smartphones. This is not the first time that it has happened with the NOKIA 6 receiving the July 2017 Security update much in advance to other Droid smartphones. The latest update weighs in at ~142MB and is only carrying the latest security updates.
Users will be prompted to download this update or can manually check for the same by going into the System settings to search for the same. Since it is an OTA update, it might take a day or two to reflect in every region.
With such a solid track record, it should not be hard to take the company’s word for other upcoming updates.
