Motorola today launched the MOTO G5S range in India. The smartphones had been officially unveiled earlier in the month with a price tag of €249 (~Rs 18,825) for the MOTO G5S and €299 (~Rs 22,600) for the Plus variant.
On an internal hardware level, the smartphones are not much different from the MOTO G5 range released earlier but they do pack some vital changes overall which we will recap below.
The MOTO G5S Plus
The MOTO G5S Plus is the Special Edition variant of the MOTO G5. It comes with the same Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The display has been enlarged to a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) IPS panel topped with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The major change comes in the form of the dual camera setup at the back comprised of twin 13-megapixel sensors. Both the sensors feature a f/2.0 aperture and are supported with a CCT dual-LED flash. Selfie duties are handled by an upgrade 8-megapixel shooter up front with a f/2.0 aperture with a dedicated LED forward flash and wide-angle lens.
Powering all this hardware is a 3000mAh battery unit which supports Motorola’s proprietary TurboPower technology that tops it with 6 hours of battery life in 15 minutes. Out of the box, the smartphone is running on Android v.7.1.1, Nougat. Just like the MOTO G5 Plus, the smartphone features a dual-SIM tray with dedicated microSD slot for memory augmentation. Wi-Fi gets a bump up too and the G5S Plus features support up to the ac dual-band standard.
The MOTO G5S Plus is launching India with a price tag of Rs 15,999 as an Amazon exclusive available in the Lunar Grey and Blush Gold liveries. Launch offers include a rebate on the exchange of your old handset, no cost EMI’s on all credit cards. Discounts on purchase of Moto Sports headphones and an 80% off (or up to Rs 300) on Amazon’s Kindle application and up to 50GB additional 4G data with telecom operators. In line with this shuffle up the MOTO G5 Plus’ price has been dropped to Rs 14,999.
The MOTO G5S
The MOTO G5S comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The display is bumped up to a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) IPS panel under a layer Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The rear camera has been upgraded to a 16-megapixel sensor featuring a f/2.0 aperture with support for PDAF and sporting an LED flash. Selfie duties are handled by a 5-megapixel f/2.0 aperture, wide-angle lens and a dedicated forward firing LED flash.
The battery powering all this hardware has also seen a bump up to a 3000mAh unit. The smartphone comes with the same dual-SIM and dedicated microSD slot as the G5S Plus. Wi-Fi is augmented to support dual-band networks but rest of the connectivity essentials remain the same as the MOTO G5.
The MOTO G5S will go on sale via Amazon but will also be available in offline retail for Rs 13,999. The colour options available are Lunar Grey and Fine Gold.
