A couple hours back we reported that the MOTO X4 had finally gotten certified by the Brazilian certification authority and that an official reveal seemed right round the corner. Now, we have seen the first official press images of the device courtesy Android Authority.
The upcoming mid-range refresh of Motorola’s erstwhile flagship range is being revived in style. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 at its heart, the smartphone will come in two flavours, the EU, North and Latin American markets will get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The Asia-Pacific region SKU will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. Dominating the front of the device is a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) display although we still are not sure about the panel used. It will come clad under a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Glance below the display and a familiar Motorola home button is present.
On the optics front, Motorola has provided the MOTO X4 with a dual camera module at the back composed of a 12-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and 1.4µm pixel size coupled with an 8-megapixel sensor with a f/2.2 aperture, 1.12µm pixel size and a 120° wide-angle lens. The camera supports PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) and comes with a dual-LED CCT flash, thanks to the dual cameras you can capture images with the bokeh depth of field effect and change focus between the foreground and background of an image. Up front, for selfies, the X4 comes with a 16-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and a 1.0µm pixel size, Motorola states that the camera is optimised for low-light images and will come with an Adaptive Low Light Mode. The front camera is also capable of recording 4K (2560 x1440) videos @30fps (frames per second) or full-HD content @60fps.
Powering all this hardware is a 3000mAh non-removable battery unit which supports Motorola’s TurboPower charging feature over the USB Type-C connector. Out of the box, the MOTO X4 will come with Android v.7.1.1, Nougat with Moto Actions, Moto Display baked in with minimal UI changes. The handset is also one of the first Motorola devices that will come with a glass back and is tipped to feature an IP68 certification which is impressive considering the phone retains a 3.5mm audio-jack.
The Motorola X4 will release in two shimmery colours of Super Black or Sterling Blue. Here is to hoping that the company launches the device sooner rather than later.
