Motorola has recently sent out an invitation for a media event scheduled for the 25 July to be held in New York. The Lenovo company is tipped to launch the MOTO Z2 or the MOTO X4 according to most inputs on point but today a new contender is in the race; the MOTO G5S range. Leaked in a marketing presentation a couple months back the G5S range is a refresh of the MOTO G5 line and not really its replacement.

Today VentureBeat claims to have been given marketing material regarding the upcoming handsets which have details pertaining to the handset. They state that the MOTO G5S Plus will be larger than the standard G5 Plus and be built with more premium materials. It is also claimed that the G5S range will feature better imaging capabilities, this is especially true of the G5S Plus as it has been spotted with a dual-camera setup on the back.

The G5S Plus will come with an adonized aluminium chassis vis-á-vis the original MOTO G5 Plus which just came with a metal back. Motorola has seemingly also bumped the display up to 5.5-inches although it remains a full-HD (1080 x1920) panel. The most noticeable change on the outside though is the dual-camera at the back plus the dimpled Motorola batwing-logo.

What remains unchanged in all this is the internal hardware; The MOTO G5S Plus will come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The dual camera setup at the rear with will be comprised of twin 13-megapixel sensors, one shooting in colour and the other in B/W. This will allow users to add a bokeh effect to images captured, replace the shot background and display select elements in the image in black-and-white. The selfie camera is also getting a slight bump with an 8-megapixel sensor instead of the MOTO G5 Plus’ 5-megapixel variant.
