Microsoft, yesterday, launched its refreshed Surface Pro line of tablets at the Shanghai event. The tablet referred as the New Surface Pro is not the next iteration in the line of Surface devices; Which is due to Microsoft not thinking it is a sufficient enough upgrade over the Surface Pro 4 line.
The New Surface Pro brings updated internals within the same package as the Surface Pro 4. Coming with a refreshed range of 7th Generation Intel CPU’s and a battery that allegedly provides for over 13.5 hours of continuous video playback. Microsoft plans to launch a variant with an LTE Advanced chip on board but that will only be available later during the year. The new Surface Pro sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with a 2256 x1504 native resolution and weighs in at 1.25kg which Microsoft claims makes this the fastest and lightest Surface tablet till date. The new Surface Pro comes with Omnisonic speakers that are supportive of the Dolby Audio Premium standard. The tablet will come in multiple variants which will have RAM ranging from 4 GB to 16 GB and storage from 128 GB to 512 GB.
Microsoft launched a bevy of accessories alongside the refreshed Surface Pro. Key among these was a brand new Surface Pen which has got a huge update, capable of sensing up to 4,096 levels of pressure and the capability to recognise the tilt angle which allows one to use it to shade, just like with a real life pencil. It does not end here though, the company has managed to reduce the input latency of the Surface Pen as well to around 21 milliseconds. Overall all the new Surface Pen is a big deal and Microsoft wants you to know it. Apart from the Surface Pen, Microsoft also announced the Surface Dial and Type Cover the latter featuring the now iconic Alcantara material finish. The Surface Pro and accessories would be available in Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Black.
