Micromax is the biggest Indian smartphone manufacturing brand among all the competitors in India but the company is facing tough times due to the Chinese companies gaining some market share in the Indian smartphone industry. The company has launched the Dual series earlier in India and now Micromax is returning to the series which acquired them the title of the largest Indian manufacturer. This series is the Canvas series of Micromax and the company has launched a refreshed version of Micromax Canvas 2 named the Micromax Canvas 2(2017). The upgrade has been a major one with the smartphone having some flagship specifications for a sub 15k category.
The Micromax Canvas 2(2017) contains a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display with a 2.5D curved glass. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 can apparently withstand falls from up to 1.6 meters according to Corning. The phone is also scratch resistant and can withstand falls from a “average selfie taking height”.
For the specifications, The Canvas 2(2017) has a 8.5mm thickness and weighs 160 grams. It comes with a 5-inch HD display with 400nits brightness. The rear camera is 13MP with f2.0 aperture and a software driven bokeh effect. It has a 5MP wide selfie camera with a 4P lens. The phone is powered by powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz Mediatek 6737 processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. It has a fingerprint scanner and a 3050mAh battery. This is the first Android Nougat phone from Micromax. The phone is capable of 4G VoLTE functionality.
The Micromax Canvas 2(2017) is available in Chrome and Champagne colours and will be available from the offline stores in India at a price of Rs. 11,999. Micromax CMO Shubhajit Sen said the phone will plug a gap Micromax had in the Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 segment which has a lot of volume in India now.
