The first bezel-less smartphone to be released into the market was the Sharp Aquos Crystal in 2014, then the concept was discarded. That is until Xiaomi came out with the Mi Mix and re-did the design in sexy ceramic and offered it for sale in a much wider market. That and the fact that thin, slim, high screen-to-body ratio are all the buzzwords in the current smartphone market. Now another Chinese company Maze Mobile is looking to getting into the action and cutting its teeth by releasing a the next you guessed it, bezel-less wonder.

Maze Alpha teaser
The Maze Alpha

The company is banking on its Maze Alpha to get the hype train going. Currently the device has a teaser on its landing page with an option to be tuned in-to the latest updates for the same. The page does have a couple of photos of the Alpha but they just tell us that the device will have a chin with all the frontal sensors crammed in and a dual-camera set-up in the rear. For the hardware packed internally we just have to take the word of Evan Blass, who recently put out this tweet,

The hardware on offer is pretty powerful and if indeed the device is running on Android Nougat that means hardware manufacturers at-least a few of them care about the OS on offer. The camera module on the back is most likely to have a SONY sensor powering them which comes as no big surprise considering how prolific their usage is throughout the industry.

What is really interesting about the whole affair though is not the specification sheet of the phone or its design but rather its price. Maze already has a current product on the market, the Maze Blade. A traditional smartphone, with a 5.5-inch screen, MediaTek octa-core SoC, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of memory. Coupled with a 13-megapixel camera and a fingerprint scanner. All this currently retailing at ~$139.99 (~₹9,000). What this means is that the Alpha can be the first really super affordable bezel-less smartphone in the market which can lead to its mass adoption.  This in turn will drive competition to come with similar, cheap offerings that will in the end benefit us, the consumer.
