We first heard about Maze, a smartphone manufacturer out of China when it unveiled the Maze Alpha. The handset was shown in a couple of leaked renders but nothing else was known save that it was going for a bezel-less look coupled with a dual camera on the back. Then towards the end of last month Maze leaked more details pertaining to the handset, including the specifications but still shied away from providing a release date or pricing.
Today, we have both and Maze has put the Alpha up for pre-order. The smartphone looks a lot like Xiaomi’s Mi Mix but manages to somehow usurp the title for the cheapest bezel-less smartphone by quite a margin. The Maze Alpha packs a MediaTek Helio P25 chipset coupled with 4 GB/6 GB of RAM and with 64 GB/128 GB of internal storage. It has a 6.0-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) IPS panel based display dominating its front with a chin at the bottom housing a home button which includes a fingerprint scanner.
Maze has provisioned the smartphone with a 13-megapixel Samsung manufactured sensor with 1.13µm pixels and f/2.0 aperture coupled a secondary 5-megapixel sensor in a dual configuration at the rear. The latter sensor is primarily for depth perception and improved lighting of captured photos. Powering this hardware is a 4000mAh non-removable battery unit with support for MediaTek’s Pump Express technology for fast charging via the USB Type-C connector.
The smartphone chassis is made of a Zinc alloy unlike Xiaomi’s more expensive Ceramic and the current trend of sandwiching a metal frame between two glass panels. Hopefully it turns out to be rigid enough to withstand daily usage. Currently, the Maze Alpha will set you back by ~$179.99 till the pre-order date of 30th of June post which the price will rise to $219.99. Only the 4 GB/64 GB variant in the black colour is available for pre-order.
