Lenovo today launched its K8 Note budget smartphone in India. The K8 replaces the K6 Note in the K-Series handsets and its greatest USP is the presence of a dual-camera. This would make the Lenovo handset amongst the cheapest offerings in the Indian market with a dual-camera setup. Apart from this the K8 Note is also the first of Lenovo devices which is ditching the proprietary Vibe UI skin in favour of a close to stock version of Android v.7.1.1, Nougat.
So without further ado, let us get into the Lenovo K8 Note and what it brings to the table.
Design and Hardware
The Lenovo K8 Note is composed of a metal unibody (5000-series aluminium) at the back with a polycarbonate face. Just like all Motorola devices, the device comes with an oleophobic nano-coating to make it splash resistant. Flip the phone over and the only modules of note are the dual cameras and the fingerprint scanner below it. Overall the smartphone does impart a premium feel thanks to the metal back and the clean lines.
Lenovo has provisioned the K8 Note with an Helio X20 SoC which has a deca-core CPU and the ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU onboard. The chipset is complemented with 3GB /4GB of RAM and 32GB /64GB of internal memory which can be expanded with a microSD card (up to 128GB). The display is a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) IPS panel clad under a layer of 2.5D Corning’s Gorilla Glass for additional protection. The main draw of the K8 Note though is the dual-camera setup at the rear of the device; Composed of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor for providing depth allowing it to capture images with the Bokeh effect. The rear camera also comes with a dual-LED CCT flash. Selfie duties are handled by a 13-megapixel sensor up front with a dedicated forward firing flash. Powering all this hardware is a 4000mAh battery unit which can be charged via the microUSB port.
On the connectivity front, the smartphone has space for dual-SIM’s (nano) with support for up to 4G (VoLTE) bands, Wi-Fi 802.11 upto ac standard (dual-band, 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz), Bluetooth v.4.1, GPS (with Active-GPS support). The smartphone sports a 3.5mm audio jack as well. In the box, customers will receive a 15W rapid charger as well. Rounding out the package is a close to stock interpretation of Android v.7.1.1, Nougat which was reportedly implemented to improve after-sales software updates and support for future Lenovo devices.
