How many cameras are more than enough on a smartphone? one, two or three? We’ve just passed the entire 2017 seeing many dual camera setups, and now it’s probably time we saw three cameras on a smartphone. Well, it seems the first brand to do it will be Huawei. New evidence has surfaced online that indicates that the Huawei P11 flagships will have three shooters at the rear. You’d be forgiven to think if this is even needed at all. For all we know, the Pixel 2 XL has just a single shooter, and it has unrivalled photography results. But that’s a topic for another day. For now, let’s just see what Huawei wants to do.

Leaked promo images shared by famed leakster Evan Blass suggests Huawei is prepping its P-series for an awesome camera experience. The promo material has a series of images which talks about a PCE series. Despite the odd moniker, Blass attributes it to the P-series. The tagline in all the pictures is the same, “I don’t take pictures, I make pictures”. The first pic in the image is where you want to pay attention. Below the tagline, it says, “Pro-Triple Lens Leica Rear Cameras.” This triple sensor setup will result in 40 MP and 5X Hybrid Zoom.

The front camera is also tipped to be a 24 MP shooter, an industry first by any brand. The promo image hints that the new flagship’s extra lens will allow much better low-light photography. Also, an AI scene recognition feature is advertised for the cameras that will auto-detect best modes for a specific scene.

This is all we know about the Huawei P11 as of now. However, we can easily expect to see thin bezels on the upcoming phones as well as the powerful Kirin 970 SoC hop on the chassis of the P11. Apart from that, no other specs of the flagship are known even in leaks.

The Huawei P10 was launched just before MWC 2017 in February. Judging by that, there is still some time to go before we can seriously think of seeing a successor.
