The Japanese company Sharp was the pioneer of the whole bezel-less design language when it first launched the Aquos Crystal in 2014. It was one of the first, if not the first Android smartphone with a borderless display featuring minimal chin and forehead spaces. Fast forward to the present and Sharp is gearing up to release smartphones based on the bezel-less principles with an even more focused front bezel area. The Sharp Aquos S2 is the flag bearer of the pack and recently got detailed in a leak on Chinese Social Media site, Weibo.
According to this leak, the Aquos S2 will come with a 5.5-inch QHD (1440 x2560) display which will likely also feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. Please note that Qualcomm had recently demoed this technology @MWC Shanghai but commercial availability was presented as late this year or early next year. Apart from this, it was alleged via leaks that the Sharp Aquos S2 would come with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 630 SoC coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
The handset is expected to start retailing for ¥2,699 (~$400) for the base variant and ¥3,499 (~$520) for the higher end version. Since then the company has come out and stated that it would be holding a launch event in Beijing on the 8 of August where the handsets would be revealed.
