HTC has been preparing to launch the next flagship smartphone from the company this year. HTC has already launched the HTC U Ultra at the start of this year but the smartphone has not received the response that HTC would have liked. We have had several rumors suggesting that HTC would be launching the sucessor to the HTC 10 as the HTC U and not the HTC 11. This has confirmed by the company in a tweet shared on the micro-blogging site announcing the launch date of its next phone.

The tweet doesn’t say much other than the fact that the phone will most likely be named the HTC U and the date of launch which is May 16. According to the video posted along with the tweet, the HTC U as rumored earlier will come with touch-sensitive frame along the edges of the devices.

As for the specifications, the HTC U would be featuring Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset while also running on the latest version of Android, v.7.1.1 Nougat under the Sense UI skin. The device will come with 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM coupled with 64 GB and 128 GB of internal storage respectively. The battery is a 3000mAh Li-Ion pack with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 standard. The device will come with a 5.5-inch QHD 1440 x2560 resolution IPS display clad under a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. The home button in the chin bezel houses a fingerprint-scanner.

As per the recent leaks of the phone, the HTC U will feature a glass-body construction like the HTC U Ultra. Stay tuned for the launch of HTC U on May 16 as we know more about the device.
