HTC’s new U Ultra and U Play smartphones were unveiled at CES last month. The company has now launched the later of the two smartphones in the Indian market. HTC earlier this week launched its higher end HTC U Ultra which has a secondary ticker display and a glossy back in India at a price of Rs.59,999. The U Ultra also comes with Android 7.0 Nougat based latest Sense UI out of the box.

Now , In a surprise move by the company , HTC today launched the mid-ranged U Play in India at a not-so mid-ranged price of Rs. 39,999. As with the U Ultra , the HTC U Play also comes with Android 7.0 Nougat based latest Sense UI out of the box.

At this price, the device comes with last year’s MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core SoC . It sports a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080×1920 pixels display . The Helio P10 SoC is accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is also a MicroSD card option for further expansion of storage upto 2TB. The HTC’s own digital assistant, Sense Companion will be also available on this device.

On the rear of the device is a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, PDAF, and dual tone LED flash. However, it can’t record videos in 4K resolution as the Helio P10 is only limited to Full HD video recording. The front camera is also equipped with a 16MP sensor with fixed focus and has the same f/2.0 aperture. It is backed by a 2,500mAh battery that supports fast charging with the 5V /2A power adapter. HTC claims the U Play to give 15 hours of talk time and lasts upto 427 hours on standby mode. The device weighs in at 145gm and measures 145.99×72.9×7.99mm.

The physical home button on the front comes embedded with the fingerprint sensor. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE for making HD voice calls. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB 2.0 Type-C port.
