The HTC U has been getting a lot of attention, even before its official announcement. The device has been rumoured to have a touch-sensitive chassis which enables more input-gestures. Recently noted tipster Evan Blass had even revealed the images of the device code-named Ocean. Now there have been a few more leaks by @LlabTooFeR which fill in important blanks about the un-revealed smartphone.

The IP 57 rating is important as it assures a modicum of dust resistance that should keep the HTC U in good stead with a water resistance of around 30 minutes under 1m of water. This would be one of the few products under the HTC stable with this level of ingress protection with only the HTC Eye coming close in recent years. The leak also notes that the device will not feature a 3.5mm audio jack just like the HTC U Ultra that released earlier this year. The U will also allegedly coming in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants which will definitely be well received in markets like India.

The HTC U will be first device from the struggling Taiwanese brand to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC with the Adreno 540 GPU. Coupled with 4 GB of RAM and featuring 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card. On the camera front, HTC is outfitting the device with a 12-megapixel sensor at the rear and selfie duties handled by a 16-megapixel snapper up-front, both sensors are from SONY. For the display, the device will be rocking a 5.5-inch quad-HD (1440 x2160) panel. The most anticipated selling point though is the touch-sensitive chassis and HTC’s latest Sense 9 UI that will debut with the Ocean. Sense UI 9.0 is based on Android’s recent, v.7.0, Nougat flavour. Although there has been no official announcement it is rumoured that HTC will release the phone later in this month.
