“We’ll make sure you keep getting regular updates, so you’ll always stay on top of features and security.” That’s what Nokia said when it launched it’s latest range of Android smartphones in the ever growing and competing market. If you head over to their website and check any of the newly launched Android device in their Phones section, you’ll find this-
If we go by the above references, it technically means that all these devices should receive the Android O update, isn’t it? With Nokia 9 currently stealing all the limelight (you do know that we have Zeiss imaging on board for Nokia 9, right?), HMD has now revealed that Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will get the about-to-be released Android O update. A spokesperson from HMD Global told Techradar that “the smartphones will get the Android O update once the new release is made available from Google for their OEM partners, the same way HMD Global is committed to the monthly Android security updates.” The latest OS update is expected to release in the third quarter of 2017, Nokia came up with it’s range of Android devices in the first quarter of 2017; and with news like this HMD is surely trying it’s best to pump up the game in the android market.
What the spokesperson simply means is that the Nokia users would get the updated version of the OS for their devices, as soon as Google makes it available, in the same way as they get their monthly android security patches. Nokia’s android devices run an almost stock version of android, and considering this it should be easy for it to deliver the updates with respect to those manufacturers who rely on customizations and additional software running on top of stock android.
If HMD manages to roll out updates for their devices the way it is claiming to, we may have Nokia phones to be among the first set of devices to boast about the new OS. And who knows, they might even announce Nokia 9 with Android O preinstalled.
