After recent statements were issued by the COAI for holding an Indian Mobile Congress on the lines of the annual Mobile World Congress extravaganza, the global mobile industry body GSMA has clarified that it will not be a part of the same, at-least in any official capacity.
“…the GSMA is not collaborating with COAI in the development of the India Mobile Congress scheduled to take place in September,” the GSM Association said in a statement.
The Cellular Operators Association of India has announced that they intend to organise an India centric Mobile Congress to focus attention on the South East Asia and Indian mobility space. The event planned to be held in the September of this year was expected to be in collaboration with the GSM Association which holds two editions of their annual Mobile World Congress but it seems that is not the case.
Meanwhile the COAI have stated that major players in the Indian mobile space like Facebook, Huawei, Cisco etc are expected to be part of the upcoming event. IMC 2017 is scheduled to be held between 27th to the 29th of September.
The Director General of the COAI Mr. Rajan S Mathews was quoted as saying, “I am hoping that at some point of time IMC will be an anchor event for South East Asia.”
The planned Indian Mobile Congress is backed by the Government of India’s Department of Telecom and Ministry of Electronics and IT to highlight India’s emergence as a strong market for the industry while promoting the #DigitalIndia and #MakeinIndia campaign to attract business and investment to India.
