May the first was not only Labour Day but also security patch day for Google’s Nexus and Pixel devices. The Mountain-View based search giant published factory images and OTA files for said devices containing the latest May security patch.

The devices which are compatible for the update with Android’s latest, v.7.1.2 build are the,

  • Pixel XL
  • Pixel
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus Player
  • Pixel C

The Motorola Nexus 6 and HTC’s Nexus 9 get the security patch with Android v.7.1.1.

These devices should be receiving a single OTA update with the May 5, 2017, security patch but for the tinkers and modders in us who wish to get their hands on the latest updates fastest, Google has already published the OTA files here, and factory images here.

The major issue remedied by the patch is a critical security vulnerability which could enable remote code execution on a compromised device via email, web browsing and MMS when processing media files. For the complete list of changes and updates, you can head to the security bulletin here.
