As we recall from last year, the first generation of Pixel phones were codenamed “Marlin” and “Sailfish” which, if you don’t know are the names of species of fish in the U.S. Continuing this trend, Google has codenamed the next generation of Pixel phones, most likely one having a smaller screen and the other with a bigger screen, to be ‘muskie’ and ‘walleye’.

This codenames were first spotted by Android Police in the AOSP gerrit codebase. The bigger of the two phones, most likely the Pixel XL 2 will be ‘muskie’ and the smaller phone, the Pixel 2 will be ‘walleye’.

We have already seen some rumors about the next generation of Pixel phones and the most notable of them is that the next generation of Pixel phones might be omitting the headphone jack. If true, this will be a bold move from Google considering Apple removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 last year, the decision which they termed as “courage“. This decision would also contradict the other manufacturers like LG and Samsung who have opted to instead keep the headphone jacks in their phone intact.

Anyways, as we have seen in the past as well, the rumors are always advised to be taken with a pinch of salt as there is no guarantee that the rumors are true. We will update about the new Pixel phones as we know more. Stay tuned till then.
