Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, company’s flagship phones of 2017 on March 29 in New York. This phones have some quality features like Infinity Display, Improved Camera, Water Resistance and many more top-of-the-line specs but the most promising feature that Samsung has been marketing with the phone is Samsung’s own Virtual Assistant, Bixby. Bixby is the the assistant developed by Samsung to compete with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri. We have been saying that Samsung has been betting big on its AI and we have a reason for that as well, Samsung has dedicated an extra button on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ just to access the Bixby Assistant.
Now, in a contrasting report from Samsung’s home country, we have reports that Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will have Google Assistant pre-installed. This is very surprising because Samsung has created a virtual assistant to compete with Google Assistant and if it comes pre-installed then it could mean hazardous for the company. Well, the report states that Samsung wants its customers to have both Samsung Bixby and Google Assistant to choose and compare the best out of the two Virtual Assistants.
Samsung’s decision to include the Google Assistant with Bixby may result in Bixby’s growth and it may be better than Google Assistant but if Google Assistant turns out to be better, the Bixby would have the fate of S-voice on the older Samsung devices and the Dedicated button for Bixby on Samsung S8 and S8+ would also be wasted. We will know more details once the phone starts to ship in the U.S on April 21. Stay tuned till then.
