We had recently reported that Motorola plans to launch a refreshed MOTO G5 line for this year. Dubbed the MOTO G5S, the handsets surfaced in an earlier leaked presentation which showed all the smartphones that the company plans to release in the year. Earlier speculated to be a late year or even next year refresh, recent developments seem to suggest that Motorola plans to launch these sooner than anticipated.
Now images of the MOTO G5S Plus have surfaced on Weibo which confirm the all-metal frame and dual cameras at the back. The photo also confirms that the handset will see the return of the legendary MOTO dimple at the back along with a redesigned antenna assembly. Apart from an image of the rear we also have what looks like the settings page for the smartphone. In there the handset is listed as having an MSM8953 chipset, which is the internal model number for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625. The settings screen also confirms that the handsets are likely to release with Android v.7.1.1, Nougat builds.
This most likely confirms that the MOTO G5S series handsets are just a minor update to the MOTO G5 with an all-metal build and not a sweeping upgrade over the latter. Alternately, more information regarding the handsets should surface before we can draw any conclusions.
