2017 seems to be the year that smartphone OEM’s have firmly gotten on board the minimal bezel design train. Since the launch of Xiaomi’s Mi MIX concept smartphone last year, we have seen an onslaught of smartphones with ever shrinking bezels. And today it is VIVO’s turn to throw its hat into the proverbial ring with its X20 smartphone.
We had first heard of the VIVO X20 around the time of MWC 2017’s, Shanghai Edition. It was the first smartphone to showcase Qualcomm’s latest ultrasound based in-display fingerprint scanner technology. From the renders, it seems that this was mostly required because VIVO has aggressively cut down on display bezels all around.
On the specification front, according to a report on the Chinese portal MyDrivers, it is likely that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM. In line with VIVO’s brand image, the X20 will also feature a powerful camera setup with VIVO’s latest DSP image processing technology. Earlier leaks have also indicated that the VIVO X20 would come with a dual camera setup in the front as well as the rear. The display looks like it will borrow from the Korean flagships and be a “tall” 18:9 aspect ratio panel.
Currently, this is all we know about the VIVO X20 but going forward we should expect to see more information forthcoming.
