Coolpad known for its Xiaomi-like aggressive pricing has launched a flagship to boost sales on the festive occasion in India. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 is no new smartphone in the sense that it was already launched in China in May. Coolpad as a 1-year-old entrant focuses on online sales but it recently started offline selling with the Coolpad Note 5 Lite C. The Cool Play 6, however, will be online exclusive to Amazon India. The phone is due to go on sale on September 4 with a price of Rs. 14,999. It will be available in gold and black colors.
The Coolpad Cool Play 6 looks a very strong mid-range phone on paper capable of taking on the likes of Xiaomi and Lenovo, although it is a bit pricey than these competitors. The phone boasts of a dual camera system and 6 GB of RAM, something no other phone has at this price point. There is a duo of 13 MP sensors with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash. Further, the unimetal body phone is well backed in terms of raw power with the Snapdragon 653 under the hood. The device is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery and will be needed to power the 5.5-inch Full HD screen.
In terms of connectivity, the Cool Play 6 has USB Type-C port, dual-SIM card slots, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The phone has been promised Android O update by December 2017. That is a vital promise, but one that Coolpad will need to keep to gain the trust of its customers.
The Cool Play 6 will have to compete with Honor 6X and Lenovo K8 Note both of which provide excellent value for the price.
