BlackBerry KeyOne released for $549

Blacberry has launched it KeyOne for $549. It is the last phone designed and engineered by it before TCL uses the brand license granted by Blackberry last September. Also the last Blackberry phone engineered and produced in-house by Blackberry and so it looks. The classic physical keyboard gives it the retro Blackberry appeal.

The KEYone Keyboard is a unique combo  which has a fingerprint sensor on the spacebar as well as capacitive touch on the entire keyboard for scrolling. You can ‘Flick’ predictions using the BlackBerry KEYone keyboard, and also assign shortcuts to keys (such as press B for browser) for use with a press or a long-press.

The KEYone is a mid ranger with an Octa-core Snapdragon 625 and 3GB of ram. It sports a 4.5 inch display with 433ppi. In terms of the design, the phone feels very premium & different in hand. The Fingerprint sensor placement is cleverly integrated with the spacebar on the keyboard. The back has a soft coating to make holding the Keyone comfortable.

The camera is a good one because it is a 12 megapixel shooter precisely the same one used by Google Pixel. So the picture quality should not disappoint. It has an 8 megapixel front shooter with a wide angle lens and flash.

  • 4.5″ Display: 1620 x 1080 IPS LCD (433 PPI)
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core 2.0 GHz w/ 64-bit Adreno 506 GPU
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage with microSD card slot

  • 8MP front camera with soft flash

The specs give a beefy phone but could have been more powerful as the price is not justifiable. At a much lower price point the One plus 3T gives it a run for its price. It has an “impact resistant” frame which is an aluminium frame that will offer the phone protection from drops.

It has a battery life of  3505mah which blackberry promises will deliver a day of usage. It has Quick Charge 3.0 and Charging Boost which Blackberry says will give 50% battery in 36 mins. It has 32 gigs of internal storage which is expandable to 2TB using and SD card.
