Samsung utilised a major part of the Galaxy S8 launch event explaining about it’s new Voice Assistant Bixby. Samsung took it very seriously and the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus even has a dedicated Bixby button which cannot be remapped to do any other function.

After so many days following the Galaxy S8 launch, Samsung is finally showing signs of release. Starting this a week, a few Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus owners can sign up to be among the first ones to test out Bixby in the U.S.

Samsung did announce that it was having problems with the English language and that Bixby would be delayed a bit. Although Bixby did come with the S8 and S8 Plus and sported a few tricks like barcode scanning and image recognition, it did not have all the features that Samsung announced.

Samsung is very focused on Bixby and is really taking giant steps. Last week, Sammy started adding Bixby to it’s smart refrigerators. This clearly means that Samsung wants to take on the likes of Siri and Alexa and have a single cloud connected ecosystem. Now that the English voice has almost been perfected, we will have to see the impact Bixby makes in the coming months.

As per Samsung’s claims, the AI Assistant is much more contextual aware compared to its competitors and will also support third-party apps. Considering that Samsung acquired Viv acquisition only last year, it’s surprising how much they have developed in such a short span of time. Samsung says that a public launch will take place in the “near future”.
