Taiwanese smartphone and notebook maker ASUS on Wednesday launched six NextGen gaming devices under its flagship Republic of Gamers (ROG) series. Asus launched the ROG GL553 gaming laptop in India starting at INR 94,990. Asus introduced the GL553 in the CES 2017 and will soon launch its premium range gaming laptop in India.
The pricing for the six new “ROG” products is: ROG GT51 (Rs 3,25,900); ROG G20CB (Rs 1,22,990); ROG G501VW (Rs 95,490); G551VW (Rs 1,00,490); G752VY (Rs 179,990) and GL552VW (Rs 82,490).
The Republic Of Gamers (ROG) Series Laptops has always been a favorite of Gamers who demand portable, yet powerful Gaming devices. With this year’s upgrade to the last year GL series, these devices got even more closer to Gaming PC’s performance.
This year’s update to the GL series is the GL553 which is a direct update of the previous year’s GL552. The major updates are mainly Processor and the GPU but there are plenty of other improved features as well.
The GL553 is powered by Intel’s new 7th Generation Kaby Lake Processors which are both more power efficient and performance providing than the last year’s 6th Generation Skylake Processors. The processors available are Intel Core i5-7300HQ and Core i7-7700HQ paired with 8GB or 16GB DDR4 RAM that is clocked at 2400Mhz. The GPU has been upgraded to at least a Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB. The other options available for the GPU are the GTX 1050 4GB and GTX 1050Ti 4GB.
The laptop is based off of 64-bit, Microsoft Windows 10.
The laptop is equipped with Red backlit scissor keys. It is a chiclet Keyboard. Though the number pad is locked to have only a white color. The keys have a full 2.5mm travel distance. The WASD keys are highlighted with striking Red color. Also it supports 30-key rollover.
The display on the other hand is rather on the smaller side, with 15.6-inch Full HD resolution(1920×1080 pixels) 60 Hz IPS panel. It is a matte panel which can provide 178°
In the connectivity department there are plenty of choices. Its offers Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 2-USB 3.0 ports (including 1-USB Typ-C port), 1-USB 2.0 port 1-RJ45 LAN port and 1-HDMI port. It also a headphone/microphone combo jack and one 2-in-1 card reader.
The base model ships with a 2.5-inch TB 7200 RPM hard disk drive, along with an option for a 128/256GB SATA III SSD. It has a HD webcam. It weighs at about 2.5Kg and is measured at 383x255x21mm. It also has a 48WHr battery. Output :19 V DC, 6.32 A, 120 W, Plug Type :ø5.5 (mm)
“The product is aimed at young professionals who enjoy regular-through-heavy gaming sessions and premium entertainment on the go,” Peter Chang, Regional Head-South Asia and Country Manage r-System Business Group – Asus India, said in a statement.
The Laptop is really impressive in performance but is priced too high in India compared to other markets. But if you’re a Gamer and needs something to carry around and play and work on-the-go, then this is one of the best options out there.
