As neglected as Sony is for its hardware, it is also the fastest at software updates. The Japanese giant was on point with Nougat updates as well even though there were hiccups along the way. Nonetheless, the company’s resolute work with OS updates is something other OEMs should admire and take note of. Sony’s good work continues with Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone major has just announced Android 8.0 rollout for the XZ Premium.

Android Oreo is set to arrive with loads of new features like notification channels, Picture in Picture, adaptive icons, better background limits and so on. Of course, Sony has added some of its own twist to the new flavour. For example, 3D Creator, Predictive Capture, Autofocus burst that sprung up with the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact.

3D Creator: creates a 3D avatar of in 60 seconds which can be shared on social media and 3D printed later.

Predictive Capture: Automatically starts buffering images when it detects a smile before you press the shutter button.

Autofocus bursts: Helps in capturing blur-free photos by tracking moving objects and sharp focusing on them.

So, the update will be rolling out “starting today” in Japan. But as usual this is a phased roll-out and it might take some time for other countries to see it. Up next for a bite of Google’s Oreo is the Sony Xperia X, X Performance, XZ, X Compact, XZs, XA1, XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and XA1 Plus. Expect announcements for these devices in the coming weeks.
