So, we’ve heard this in numerous leaks, so far. But there hasn’t been an official clue to the claims. We’re talking about the reformatting of the Galaxy A series from Samsung. A specific Chinese tipster started the debate and rumour that Samsung would rename its A series phones, the Galaxy A5, A7 2018. The new names would be Galaxy A8, A8 + 2018 where the A8 is the smaller A5. This, of course, raises the question of the A3 (2018). Well, there will be no A3 in the series anymore. Samsung has decided to axe the small form factor. And with reports of a 5-inch Galaxy S9 Mini floating around, it might migrate to the S series.
Coming back to the new Galaxy A8 + label, now its almost confirmed. A new document from Bluetooth SIG was spotted by Sammobile today that contains indications of the Galaxy A8 + (2018). This report also complements another recent report that the A5 (2018) was indicated as Galaxy A8 (2018) in another Bluetooth SIG doc. So, this is pretty much as close to official as we can get. Hence, we are now pretty sure that this will be the future branding of the A series.
Apart from the renaming effort, Samsung will endow the A series with a new Infinity Display. To be precise, one that is not curved like the Galaxy S8 Active. Also, it is more than likely to sport the Exynos 7785 chip along with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage.
Both the handsets have got the go-ahead last month from the FCC in the US, and Wi-Fi Alliance as well. It still remains to be seen if Samsung launches the next iterations this year or in January next year.
